The Neurofeedback Center of Brevard provides clinical services in Neurofeedback, Chiropractic, and Life and Wellness Coaching. We offer a variety of brainwave and health training options that are selected to suit each individual.

At the Neurofeedback Center we are dedicated to helping individuals attain their maximum potential through enhanced brain fitness. Neurofeedback can help reduce or eliminate a broad range of symptoms including anxiety, stress reactions, depression, sleep problems, headaches and migraines, chronic pain, compulsive behavior, mood swings, stroke, traumatic brain injury, seizures, autism, attention deficits and many other dysfunctional states that affect physical and emotional well-being.

Dr. Steve Cagen discovered neurofeedback in 2009 while searching for new ways to help his daughter recover from a severe traumatic brain injury and founded the Neurofeedback Center in 2011 after fully embracing its potential as an effective, drugless therapy for brain regulation.

As clinical director for the Neurofeedback Center, Dr. Cagen works to help individuals optimize their physical, mental and emotional well-being through EEG training, nutritional and life coaching.

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is brain exercise. We let your brain see its own activity through a video display driven by your brain waves. This allows your brain to improve its own self-regulation and ability to function over time. Neurofeedback is also called EEG biofeedback. EEG refers to Electroencephalogram, the term used for recordings of brain wave activity.

What Can Neurofeedback Help?

Neurofeedback is training in self-regulation. Good self-regulation is necessary for optimal brain function. Self-regulation training enhances the function of the central nervous system and thereby improves mental performance, emotional control and physiological stability.

With neurofeedback we target bioelectrical functioning of the brain which is actually a more important issue that the “chemical imbalance” that is often talked about. We are concerned with the brain’s internal regulatory networks. When we train the brain towards better function, the need for medication often diminished or falls away. Neurofeedback is somewhat like putting the brain on a stair stepper to exercise certain regulatory functions continuously. This is helpful with a wide variety of functional deficits.

Does Neurofeedback Cure Symptoms or Conditions?

In the case of organic brain disorders, it is a matter of getting the brain to function better rather than curing the condition. When it comes to problems of disregulation, there is not a disease to be cured, and self-regulation may very well be a complete remedy.

Who Can benefit from Neurofeedback?

Individuals of any age can benefit from EEG training. Neurofeedback can help a variety of childhood problems including bedwetting, nightmares, attention deficits and other forms of disruptive and disturbing behaviors. Neurofeedback can assist adolescents who struggle with anxiety and depression or drug and alcohol abuse.

Neurofeedback can help anyone maintain good brain function as they age. Peak performers also use EEG training to enhance their abilities in sports, business and the arts.

How is Neurofeedback Done?

Sensors are attached to the scalp with EEG paste which then pick up brain waves. It is painless and does not involve the application of any voltage or current to the brain, so it is entirely non-invasive.

A computer processes the brain waves and extracts certain information from them. We show you the ebb and flow of your brain waves, and the specific information we obtain from them, in the form of a video game. The specific brain wave frequencies we reward and the locations on the scalp are unique to each individual.

What Happens if Neurofeedback Clients are taking Medication?

With successful Neurofeedback training, medications targeting brain function may no longer be needed, or they may be needed at lower dosages, as the brain takes over the role of regulating itself. It is important for clients to communicate with their prescribing physician regarding Neurofeedback and medications.

If Neurofeedback Can Do So Much, Why Haven’t I Heard of it Before?

Neurofeedback is not yet taught in most medical schools or psychology graduate programs. Many professionals are therefore unaware of the power of this technique.

s Home Training a Possibility?

For those clients we travel to our clinic long distance, we offer intensive training followed by referral to a local practitioner or a remote training program monitored by our clinic. It is also possible for local clients with long-term training needs to take advantage of this home training option.

Home training is available to Neurofeedback of Brevard clients who have completed sufficient Neurofeedback at the clinic so that:

– Clear gains have been observed with training

– There is reasonable need for long-term training

– An effective training protocol has been established

This involves at least 20 sessions.

Instrumentation and technical support along with ongoing clinical supervision are provided by The Neurofeedback Center of Brevard.
